What is going on in October?

From classic fall crafts to special Halloween events, there is no shortage of things to do at Northern Routes sites this fall!

Two Rivers is the Northern Routes site with the most activities this month, aimed at all ages. These events include:

A four week tasting menu of art is being held on the first four Wednesday mornings of the month, which will introduce artists to a wide range of art forms.
Two Rivers’ Marking Time exhibition leaves the gallery early in the month, the closing reception will be held at UNBC on October 3rd.
Become an apprentice blacksmith and make a chainmail bracelet or watch on October 18th and 25th.
An eight week life-drawing course beings on October 8th.
Learn therapeutic art skills and practice personal wellness through creative expression at a six session Art for Wellness workshop starting in mid-October.
An eight session introduction to 2D animation begins on October 23rd.
Two Rivers is also holding its normal Creative Space Sundays – which are free for members – each Sunday of the month, and a Homeschool Tuesday on October 29th.
They have two Beads and Bannock Indigenous craft nights planned for the month.

On top of all these wonderful events, Two Rivers Gallery is open from 10:00 to 5:00 Tuesday to Saturday, and 12:00 to 5:00 on Sundays.

Huble Homestead is wrapping up its 2024 season with a two great events this month:

Fall on the Homestead runs on October 13th, which includes a scarecrow making contest, heritage demonstrations, old fashioned games, food and drinks!
The Halloween Spooktacular is the last event on Huble’s annual schedule. Catch a magic show, carve a pumpkin, enter a costume contest, explore an eerie maze, and take a tour of the House of Horrors inside the Huble House.

Huble Homestead is also open by donation each Saturday and Sunday this month from 10:00 to 5:00.

The museum has multiple workshops and special events this month:

There are two cheesemaking workshops at the Railway and Forestry Museum at the start of this month, and two more on the first weekend of November
The Pumpkin Express is a special Halloween event where you can do a Halloween craft, explore the storywalk, and pick up a free pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.

The Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum is open from 11:00 to 4:00 from Wednesday to Sunday. They are also available for private bookings.

The Exploration Place holds daily animal feedings and science demonstrations. The Exploration Place is open 9:00 to 5:00 every day.

Other Northern Routes sites have lots to experience in October:

The Fort St. James National Historic Site is open daily from 9:00 to 5:00.
Barkerville is open for self-guided tours daily from 8:00 to 5:00, and cottages and guests homes can still be booked for fall and winter getaways.
The Mackenzie & District Museum is open from 10:00 to 2:00 from Tuesday to Saturday.
The Valley Museum and Archives in McBride is open Tuesday to Friday from 11:00 to 4:00.
The Whistlestop Gallery in McBride is open from 9:30 to 5:00 daily.
