Penny: Found Memories

On now at the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum! Penny: Found Memories tells the story of the community of Penny, located on the Fraser River approx. 130 km east of Prince George, BC.

The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway finished construction of the East Line in 1914 and 40 new communities formed between Prince George and McBride. The railway station at Penny was a hub for the region and by the 1950s, there were a large number of sawmills with many workers and their families calling the area home. All this changed in the mid-1960s when the sawmills were centralized and many residents were forced to move to find work.

Visit the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum to discover more about how the railway and forest industry impacted this community, and visit the actual Penny Station that has been moved to the museum site.
